Here we are again with the appointment of the tablet, and today we see evidence review dell’Acero Iconia Tab W500. The coupling system, however, has resisted well to stress and, although it may appear fragile to the eye, not at all to the test.
To close the chapter on the dock, a few words on the keyboard. The QWERTY keyboard is comfortable thanks to the island suffered the only well-spaced and have no lack of accented letters. Since it is a tablet that wants to make little sense to buy the notebook without the dock and you can save money by avoiding the 3G version and using your smartphone as a WiFi hotspot.

I state that I did not buy it personally but my brother bought, so I use it often and I can give an evaluation! First, the appearance is nice and innovative, it also appears very strong as a tablet. I’ve used Acer Travelmate T202t notbooks in conjunction with my work for several years now. They were excellent value when purchased, but have obviously now been well surpassed in terms of spec. However, hopefully this review will give you some idea of the lifespan and use of these computers, and maybe you’d be able to pick one up on the cheap (I see similar models going for £100-200 on eBay which is a bargain!).
Acer TravelMate C202TMi SPECIFICATIONS
Processor: Intel Celeron 600mhz. I’ve never really liked the Celeron and this unfortunately is no exception. There’s nothing majorly wrong here, it’s just a little slow and power consumption ain’t too great at all. Doesn’t get too hot mind you.
Memory: 64mb RAM, not really enough for multi-tasking of any kind these days, however it runs the bundled Windows ME operating system fine and deals OK with internet and word-processing. There is also a spare slot available should you wish to upgrade, or indeed bin the existing 64mb and you have 2 spare slots allowing much greater memory.
Hard Drive: 5gb. Pretty tiny, you won’t want to be saving too much on here but again, provided you’re only using the machine for simple tasks like word-processing and internet, you won’t fill it up too quickly.
Disk Drives: CD-Rom and Floppy Drive. The CD-Rom is noisy but reasonably quick and doesn’t struggle with CD-Rs like some do. Floppy drives on laptops are getting rarer so this is a real bonus, especially considering the size of the machine.
Video/Sound: 12.1″ TFT-LCD screen, ATI Rage Mobility-M graphics, on-board sound. The screen is, lets face it, pretty tiny. Although the laptop itself is a small unit, the screen could still have been 13.3″ or 14.1″ without changing the size of the laptop. Its performance is fine though, the ATI graphics pulling out decent performance for most of the stuff you’ll want to be doing. Sound quality through the built in speakers at the base of the monitor is predictably very poor but not quite so bad through headphones.
Connectivity: Headphone socket, microphone socket, line out socket, phone line connection for the built-in 56k modem, PS/2 port for mouse/keyboard, 2x USB ports, parallel port for printer, serial port, monitor connection and 2 PCMIA card slots. Not enormous connectvity here but definitely adequate, especially useful to have 2 each of the PCMIA and USB.
Software: Minimal software is supplied; Microsoft Windows ME is the pre-loaded operating system. This is one of the least-liked Windows OSs but I don’t really see any snags, is basically a slightly tuned-up ‘98. Little else to mention on this front, just comes with all the drivers etc. You’ll need to provide your own Office/Word Processing software if you want it.

Compared to other Acer laptops I’ve used, this one feels pretty solid. It’s made of black plastic which is quite roughly textured, looks rather dated these days but who cares really. It is still a small unit even compared to modern units, this is probably due to the low spec and small screen but does make the laptop very nice and portable, it’s not like lugging a sack of bricks around when you want to carry it. When closed, the Acer logo is in silver on the top, below 2 indicator lights which show power on/sleep status.
When open, you’re presented with the small matt black screen surrounded by a large plastic border (wasted space) and the stereo speakers. There are also a variety of indicator lights at the bottom of the screen. Below this, the keyboard is a pretty standard layout, with 4 customisable hotkeys at the top. The keyboard is OK, perhaps a little cramped but doesn’t feel too flimsy. The touchpad below the keyboard is excellent, large and responsive with two satisfyingly clicky main buttons and a useful scroller underneath. Volume controls and sound connections are on the left with most connections on the back. Expansion bays etc are easily accessed behind screws on the bottom. Floppy drive is on the front panel, CD on the right.
The usual power/HDD etc lamps light up when switching on, the power switch is located on the left had side and is quite peculiar, a spring-loaded slider that you push across, sorely a button on the front panel would be better?! Nevertheless, it is ergonomically pretty sound.

System boots fairly quickly into Windows ME and due to the lack of third-party grabge already installed there is little to slow it down. Everything is pretty clean and easy to work with, however once you do start putting programs on be prepared for things to slow down a lot. It really needs carefully looking after to remain in good operating condition.
Battery performance is pretty poor. You might squeeze 2 hours out of it if you’re lucky, this is disappointing given the size of screen but I suppose they are getting old now so you can’t expect too much on this front. Running off the mains is no problem, and the cable doesn’t get knocked out quite as easily as some machines.
In terms of program performance, its going to struggle with anything more complicated than basic office apps and internet. It isn’t really intended for anything else. Video and graphics-heavy apps are a no-no as are games of any kind. It’ll cope fine with word and Internet Explorer though, even with a couple of windows open.
It can be quite noisy during use, the fan is a bit whiny and the CD-Rom can be very loud but hey, what do you expect for this sort of money.

Overall, I’m impressed with longevity and continued service of these laptops. We use them for basic internet browsing and word processing with some slideshows/pictures. They handle these fine as long as they’re kept clean and tidy so I would recommend this or similar for anyone wanting a basic portable workstation to compliment a more powerful PC.

A bright 15.4 inch screen, huge hard disk, and seemingly unlimited levels of memory make this a great home laptop, this to me seems where it is best suited rather than as a business notebook. Its reasonable if not good price make this centrino laptop a very good choice.

Build:
While i wouldn’t say its likely to fall apart, this laptop isn’t one i would fancy dropping down the stairs. After days the incredibly glossy rear screen was scratched and lead me to buying a laptop sleeve. The latch to unhook the screen can be somewhat fiddly at times but it works none the less.
The keys feel quite flimsy as you type them, they are incredibly flat and as a touch typer i find them often hard to navigate. To many of my non touch typist friends they are however fine. The touchpad itself is responsive and easy to sue but the buttons accompanying it have a joing panel, meaning single clicks to either side can be somewhat awkward!
The positioning of the vents is helpful because there is a front and rear allowing a good airflow unrestricted when you use on a soft surface.
The screen and all its fancy ‘TFT’ lettering make it a good screen but heavily draining on battery if needed on high brightness, its very clear screen and wide viewing angles luckily mean this is not often necessary.
The casing holds an array of fancy ports, and all i can say really is it has a useful multicard reader and plenty of USB ports and even a HDMI out. Alongside your regular sound and ethernet ports it has it all, certainly nothing i went without but not over the top either.
Performance:
The processor is certainly more than adequate, pushing onto desktop speeds. The memory is vast, filling the capabilities of the windows pack infarct. On these two small facts alone you can see the clear performance of this laptop, it is very reliable and while not the fastest for the price it is very good. After a few nerdy tweaking to the laptop it yielded some impressive boot times with off to log on taking around 20 seconds, and from there to loaded only taking a further 7!
Battery:
Again adequate i managed about three hours with wireless internet and simple word processing, contrastingly when i pushed it with a bit of multitasking as expected it dropped down to around an hour! .. Acer does provide a ‘epower’ button to help you maximize these times.
An all round average laptop, nothing special but at the price an exceptionally good home laptop, its almost designer image make it the only thing that would stop me using this as a regular laptop to commute with.

My first was an Asus netbook white 7-inch monitor. I remember the first time I went to a meeting with a customer believes to amaze me. We start with the design: the netbook is extremely thin, durable and attention to detail, led by the smallest finish. The monitor is kind of shiny and occupies almost the entire front surface (unlike Clementoni). The keyboard is large and well made. I had other netbooks, and in many cases, add RAM, I was forced to remove the battery and keyboard. The device is installed a trial version of Office 2007 that you start with surprising speed and works quickly and smoothly. I tried to install Photoshop Element 7 to carry out small projects and retouching graphics and everything went smoothly. The battery lasts about six hours with wireless turned on. All other devices such as webcams and bluetooth work well and never give signs of uncertainty or instability. The quality of the monitor is exceptional (1.366×768 pixels) and can play movies in HD, unfortunately the processor (Z520 Atom) no lightning and watch a movie in high risoluzone becomes a difficult task (blocks shots and frequent) .
Finally the 751 is a good product for both the aesthetics for the content offered at an attractive price. And ‘good but do not forget that it is always a netbook and so performance is not just the maximum

Some months ago I bought a Netbook Acer Aspire One model D250.
The model in question has as main characteristics the presence of an Intel Atom N280 (1.66GHz, 512KB L2, 667MHz FSB), a hard drive with 160 GB capacity (not Flash as in other models of the same line), 1 gb RAM and a 10.1 inch monitor.
The device also has wi-fi, very useful to use the office or home network without having to plug the network cables (still available thanks to the Ethernet port on the laptop), and a web cam with microphone.
At first I was a bit ’skeptical about purchasing this product due to lack of a CD / DVD player, nowadays not essential but very useful for burning data to transfer (in addition to any program or to install or play movies.)
Apart from this small flaw can be addressed by any external module (which anyway would make unnecessary the convenience of an article so compact), after months of use we are extremely satisfied.
This is a device from limited potential, just think of the fact that only a bench mounted 1gb ram, has a very powerful processor and a chipset integrated graphics (Intel Graphics Media Acceleator 950) is not particularly fast.
Obviously we must consider that article was intended for office tasks, namely storage, databases, Word, Excel, calendar, contacts, manage email and web browsing, so his task is more than enough, but would be hypocrites, at least on my part, not wanting to admit to something more like a movie or maybe see us do (or have done) playing some game time for recreation.
Anyway, with specific rules, I found that the PC is very efficient and reliable opening of documents, even large, is rapid, as the rescue operation or storage.
USB ports (in quantity) allow you to connect multiple devices simultaneously, so you can use an external mouse (the touchpad is already uncomfortable in normal notebook, let alone here), a printer, a scanner, a device for additional storage mass and much more.

The performance nevertheless allow a use that goes beyond the simple office work, because my son has heard several times on holiday music or watching movies without any problems (but obviously plugged in to issues of autonomy, so that operations with binding decreases significantly), and is considered very satisfactory.
