The ATI Radeon 5770 gives you stunning next-gen graphics at an affordable price. Fully compatible with DirectX 11, this powerful graphics card can run all of the latest games without any stuttering or slowdown. It is loaded with advanced rendering technologies that make your games look more realistic than ever before.

And thanks to ATI Eyefinity, you can expand your display across three monitors–adding an extra level of immersion to your gaming. With certified drivers for Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP, the Radeon 5770 will take your gaming experience to the next level.

Unrivaled Visuals with DirectX 11 Support

The Radeon 5770 is a graphics powerhouse. With more than one billion transistors, it can muscle through even the most hardware-intensive games. It also uses advanced GDDR5 memory that can keep up with the high-bandwidth demands of today’s games. With so much graphic power at its disposal, the card guarantees a smooth, latency-free gaming experience.

The card also boasts superior filtering capabilities. It supports up to 24x multi-sample anti-aliasing that works to smooth out jagged edges and eliminate graphical artifacts. And with up to 16x anisotropic filtering, textures appear sharper than ever.

Most importantly, however, the Radeon 5770 gives you access to DirectX 11 (DX11)–the next generation of PC graphics technology. DX11 unlocks brand-new graphical features like tessellation, which allows for greater realism and detail. More and more games rely on DX11, and with the Radeon 5770, you won’t be left behind with an inferior graphics card.

ATI Eyefinity for an Immersive, Panoramic View

The Radeon 5770 also features ATI Eyefinity, a radical new technology that allows you to expand your display across up to three monitors. Using Eyefinity, you can achieve a wide, panorama-like display. Since each monitor preserves its native resolution, you’ll be able to link your monitors without a decrease in sharpness.

If you’re a gamer, the added visual space gives you a real advantage. Shooter fans will have expanded peripheral vision and will react faster to incoming enemies. Real-time strategists will get a commanding view of the map and will be able to execute strategies more effectively. And flight simulators will feel more immersive than ever, placing you directly in the cockpit.

High-Definition Video and Audio

With the Radeon 5770, you’ll be able to enjoy all of your HD media with unparalleled crispness and clarity. The card is equipped with ATI Avivo, a new reference technology that speeds up HD image processing. With Avivo, you can expect flawless, smooth video playback, with faster decoding and post-processing than ever. Avivo also enables full HDMI connectivity and support for the latest HD color profiles, so you can watch Blu-ray movies on your computer.

The Radeon 5770 also sports an integrated audio controller that supports HD audio profiles like AC-3, AAC, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD. It features up to 7.1 channel surround audio and delivers a powerful HD audio performance.

Energy Efficient and Quiet

Thanks to ATI’s industry-leading power design, you’ll also enjoy the ultimate in energy efficiency and quietness while using the Radeon 5770. The card utilizes PowerPlay technology, which dynamically adjusts power use depending on how active the card is. This helps the GPU disperse heat more effectively, ensuring that your card runs safely and stably. It also makes the card quieter, so you can hear your games instead of your computer.

Crossfire Support for Multiple GPU Power

PC gaming is more immersive than ever before, but it is also much more hardware intensive. To keep up with the latest benchmarks, one graphics card sometimes isn’t enough. Thankfully, the ATI Radeon 5770 supports Crossfire, which allows you to link two graphics cards together for a greatly increased GPU output. This added graphic power eliminates frame-rate hiccups and slowdowns and improves your gaming experience even more.

The ATI Radeon 5770 Graphics Card is backed by a three-year warranty.

XFX Radeon HD 5770 user review

My very first true graphics card was a Radeon rage 128 with like 8 or 16mb video ram. I have gone through many Radeon cards and for 180$ this is one hell of a card. Lets face it not many, if none games today support direct x 11 however my nvidia 9800gt did not support my Panasonic resoultion which was because my 9800GT didn’t have a HDMI output connector. The fact is when I grew tired of the Radeon 5850 being out of stock I bought this card and so far hooked to a Panasonic 46″ plasma it has performed outstandingly. If you want maximum performance wait for the 5850 for 5870 but the fact remains 180$ for a graphics card with direct 11 and capable of running L4D at full 1920X1080 resoultion is remarkable. This card almost didn’t fit into my NZXT cases so be prepares it requires some room, for this price this card is outstanding and its in stock woot :) . I am not a nerd nor going to give anyone a pros or cons verdict. Fact is I’am a gamer so for 180$ this is a great deal and lets face it ladies and gentle men why should anyone pay more than 200$ for a graphics when it will be outdated within a year? Too many manufactures are looking for profit with no gain to consumer experience, all I have to say is watch what you spend and remember corruptions are looking out for any amount of money they can acquire, was this card worth the 180$? So far yes but beyond 200$ is insane especially considering a x-box is 200$

I have already reviewed our company standard laptop, the HP NC6120, well that standard just got replaced. My boss sent me the spec of a Toshiba Portege M200 that he was considering as his, much older, laptop can not run the applications that he now needs – What did I think?

Toshiba Portege M200 specification

Firstly the Portege M200 is a convertible Notebook/Tablet. You can use it like a normal notebook or you can revolve the screen round 180degrees, close it flat and pull the stylus out. You then have the device in “slate mode” where it is used without keyboard. There is a very good note on the machine about this, don’t turn it too fast.

As a notebook, it’s a bit smaller than average and a bit lighter however there is no CD or DVD drive of any sort. This is fairly normal with tablets and makes for a kinda sub-note book. When using a tablet as a writing slate, they don’t work the same way as most PDA’s, the screen is not actually touch sensitive and you can’t write with your fingernail. There’s some sort of hidden grid of wires that respond to the stylus and allow very accurate positioning. You can write and draw very precisely on the screen.

With that in mind, what’s the spec like (key highlights only listed)?

Processor Intel® Centrino 2.0 GHz
Operating system Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition
System memory standard : 512 MB, Maximum 2048MB
Hard disk capacity : 60 GB
Display size : 12.1 ”
Graphics adaptor: NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX Go5200 30MB DDR Video RAM
Internal video modes resolution : 1,400 x 1,050
Max External Video Modes Max Resolution : 2,048 x 1,536
1 x SD™ Card slot
2 x USB 2.0
1 x PC Card slot for 1 Type II card
Wireless Technology : Wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g)
Physical dimensions W x D x H : 295 x 249 x 33.2/36.9 mm
weight : 2.0kgs

Spec wise I said looks good but its not our company standard – well if you own half the company I guess that’s not so important. Next day it arrived, here’s a long list of software to install please…..

Whats it really like?

Firstly there are a lot of processor variants around and it can be tricky to compare the number of GHz from one type with another. However 2.0 is the fastest Centrino (Pentium M) processor that I’ve heard of. I’m writing on a 1.1GHz Centrino and also have a 1.7GHz Centrino laptop, so a fast processor then.
I had to double take the resolution – this is a 12.1 inch screen with a resolution of 1400×1050 that’s remarkably high. Well when the laptop turned up, it certainly is a high res display. You can fit a huge amount of information onto a small screen at that resolution; if you’re like me you’ll have your nose pressed up against it until you turn it down to something a bit more sensible. However a fantastic screen in both laptop mode and slate mode. The resolution also applies to pointer accuracy when using the stylus in slate mode.

The 2 USB ports are at the back behind the screen when in laptop mode, so to get to them you have to close the laptop – oh shutting the lid with the screen the conventional way hibernates the laptop. I found this really annoying – why did they put those there and default closing the lid to hibernate? The ports seem to be slightly angled as well.
The keyboard has been poorly implemented. Things that really annoy me about laptops is when they mess around with the back-slash key or don’t make a good job of the trackpad. Firstly the keyboard is soft and bounces when you press any of the keys in the middle, secondly the back-slash is in an almost random position on the right hand side of the space bar – that’s completely the wrong half of the keyboard – and the track pad doesn’t have a separate vertical scroll region.

The machine has an NVIDIA graphics adapter which seems to work well enough and the name is good. There’s even a little NVIDIA sticker on the laptop showing how proud Toshiba are of this. However this sticker is not on straight (and I can see its crooked – then its really crooked). There’s just no call for messing things up like that – where’s the build quality in fixing a sticker on a slope. I’m sure that pulling it off will leave a lovely sticky mark as well – so it was there annoying me until I gave the machine back to my boss.
So having decided that I don’t like this machine in laptop mode, what’s it like in slate mode? Well its OK – at 2KG you can just about take the weight in your left hand whilst writing with your right (or vice versa for a lefty). The screen has a reversible clip so it will stay shut to the laptop body either way round. Toshiba supply the machine with Microsoft OneNote – the de-facto tablet application (this deserves its own review sometime). Toshiba also install a separate gesture application – this was really neat, you can choose actions to go with specific pen gestures – such as a big N written the correct way to start a new document and so on. The pen stores neatly in the side of the laptop.

Toshiba Portege M200 final verdict

This is a good specification convertible notebook – faster than most normal notebooks and with an awesome screen however it’s let down by a poorly designed keyboard.

Technical Details

* Unique On/Off Charge delivers the best recharging capability to iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch
* 3x USB power delivery for greater compatibility and extra power for USB devices
* Supports new generation Intel 32nm 6-core processors
* Ultra Durable 3 Technology with copper cooled quality for lower working temperature
* Supports newest NEC SuperSpeed USB 3.0 with superfast transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps

I picked up one of these for my latest system build, and I’m pleased to say that it booted up perfectly the first time and has been running rock-solid ever since.

Here is the hardware that I’m using with it:
1) Core I7 920 CPU
2) 12GB Corsair DDR3 1600 memory (9-9-9-24)
3) Seasonic M12II 620w PSU
4) Radeon 5770 1GB (running 2 screens @ 2560×1600 & 1200×1600)
5) Intel X25M-G2 160GB SSD

I am a C programmer and I tend to use my system heavily. A typical work load would be running Windows 7 x64 with 2 copies of Visual Studio + VMware Workstation 7 with up to 4 or 5 VMs running simultaneously, and all the other source control and debug utilities that I am using at any given time. This system breezes through that like butter.

The main issue I typically have is that I keep my PC locked in an enclosed cabinet with only one 92mm intake fan and a 120mm exhaust fan vented into the garage – both are running at low speeds to keep it quiet. Because of that, my hardware needs to run solid at fairly high temps. In this system, the CPU temps have gotten as high as 160F and I haven’t seen any instability at all.

I used to only buy Asus motherboards until a few years ago when their quality started to drop off. Now I only buy these Gigabyte ‘durable’ boards and they have all been true to their name for the kind of stress I run them under. This board hasn’t had any problems at all going in or out of standby (S3) either.

Personally, I don’t overclock anything anymore (I got sick of burned up hardware when I blew up my P90 system 15 years ago); but this motherboard is extremely flexible if you are inclined to do that.

Overall, I highly recommend this board if you are looking for a solid entry in the socket 1366 space.

Gigabyte LGA1366 user review

I run a data-mining workstation and a database server so I need something stable, expandable and reliable. I’ve been around computers since the days of the green screens and have built my last 5 machines. I had an Asus dual-processor motherboard that died in less than a year. It wasn’t terribly stable with higher-end video cards and iffy about the memory it took. (Check out reviews of the Z8NA-D6C on the web.)

When the replacement Asus board failed, I decided to go back to Giga-Byte since I’d used their board on a desktop I built in 2005 – a desktop that still runs. Just looking at the board revealed Giga-Byte’s attention to detail and quality. Two PCI x16 slots with enough room between and around them to handle large video cards (I have a PNY Quadro FX4700X2 quad-monitor output that takes up two card slots). 6 triple-channel memory modules that aren’t all scrunched up against the CPU slot. Heat shields and heat sinks on the critical components (higher quality stuff than other boards I investigated). Multiple on-board USB connectors for the front panel.

On-board voltage indicator lights (seemed gimmicky till I started overclocking.) You get the idea. I configured it with an i7 930 @ 2.8 Ghz, 24 GB of RAM, Quadro 4700X2 Card, Xonar audio card and 5 drives. Boots up without a hitch and runs flawlessly. I overclocked it using the Giga-Byte EasyTune utility, which makes overclocking ridiculously easy and is very helpful given the i7 requires adjustments to Base Clock, voltages etc. Has run overclocked without blinking and has handled everything I’ve thrown at it.

The BIOS is quite user-friendly and will make overclockers smile. While it isn’t dual-processor, overclocking, tweaking the data models to run faster and having overall system stability more than make up for the lack of a second processor. A dual-processor machine isn’t very helpful if you’re constantly spending time managing and/or rebuilding it.

I ended up liking this board so much I went back and bought a second board for my database server and snapped in a hardware RAID card. I know the board wasn’t intended for “server-grade” stuff but it does just fine.

I have been waiting for an ebook reader with excellent readability and ergonomics for $150, and here it is: the Ectaco Jetbook Lite.

No, the JBL doesn’t have wireless capability, and no, it doesn’t play mp3s. I have a little device called an mp3 player that does that!

What the JBL does do is serve up a variety of ebook formats, including the mobi format the New York Public Library supports, along with eReader DRM, FictionBook, plain text, PDF, EPUB, and others.

The JBL doesn’t use e-ink technology. Instead it sports a VERY readable LCD screen with the added advantage over e-ink screens of fast page turning: as fast as you can turn a paper page, in fact.

The JBL screen delivers high-contrast black text against a white background, comparable to the Nook unit and better than the Kindles, from the photos I’ve seen.

I have been reading “The Mysterious Island” on the JBL for several hours with NO eye fatigue. Though the light in my dark first-floor apartment is not the best, the background picks it up beautifully.

There are no less than three page-turning controls, one on the left side of the unit, another on the front under the screen — plus you can turn pages with your right hand using the arrow keys on the bottom right.

The JBL sports several built-in dictionaries, making it easy to look up words in English or translate them from other languages. The unit also comes with a number of classics onboard, including Shakespeare, Dickens, Joyce, the Bible, and more.

You can also plug in an SD card, expanding the memory to hold a prodigious number of ebooks — enough for even the longest vacation abroad or the most protracted cruise!

The JBL also “plays well” with Windows XP. My computer recognized it right away (well, after pausing for the obligatory restart), and it’s easy to copy files using My Computer.

I had a little trouble finding some Mobi books I copied using the Mobipocket reader on my computer; I found them using the unit’s file manager routine, in a second folder it had created for the purpose. I subsequently used My Computer to move these files into the unit’s primary book folder, which makes resuming reading much faster and easier when you turn the unit on.

The JBL is rated to run for more than 20 hours on four AA batteries. I have been using high-capacity NiMH rechargeables, and the power meter is still reading full after several hours of reading. This sure beats the Franklin eBookman I used to have — and the JBL doesn’t lose its memory when you change the batteries!

You may not see it in the photos, but the unit has a backside bulge on the left to accommodate the battery chamber. This actually makes the reader comfortable to hold in your left hand, and it serves as a handy stand when you switch to landscape format while you’re eating at the table.

Finally the JBL fits nicely into my back jeans pocket.

What can I say? If you don’t care about wireless capability… if you already have an mp3 player… and if you have better things to do with your money than spend more than two hundred clams on an ebook reader… check out the Ectaco Jetbook Lite.

It holds and displays an entire library of ebooks with first-class readability and ergonomics, and that’s what really matters!

UPDATE: I made the mistake of ordering the silicon sleeve Ectaco sells to “protect” the JBL. It doesn’t fit very well, it doesn’t protect the screen, and at $34 delivered, it offers poor value for money.

It also feels rather slippery; it needs texturing to improve your grip. In short, I fear it will make me drop the JBL while turning a page, obviating its usefulness protecting the unit. I do NOT recommend it and suggest that you seek a protective sleeve/pouch from a third-party vendor (Ectaco’s other fancier pockets were more expensive, at $50 and $100 respectively, not including shipping).

I would return it, except that Ectaco charges a 6% restocking fee and won’t refund the exorbitant $14 shipping charge. Phooey!

UPDATE NUMBER TWO: When I bought the JBL in December, it was still having problems with DRM books (the pdb titles, available at Barnes & Noble). You couldn’t select font size, text was missing as you went from page to page, and it took a long time to open a book.

I am pleased to report that the latest firmware upgrade seems to have solved all these problems. The only remaining issue appears to be a problem opening DRM reference titles like Webster’s Dictionary; it takes a full ten minutes to open this sucker — not practical for a quick word check.

Regular DRM books seem to be working fine, however. And these fixes were accomplished without users having to send their unit back for refurbishing, as users of the base Sony reader had to recently. (If your JBL is having DRM issues, visit the general forum at Ectaco.com and follow the links and instructions for updating to the latest firmware; the process works without glitches, and I’m no rocket scientist, I’ll confess.)

Thus the JBL handles with aplomb the latest bestsellers from B&N as well as all the free mobi titles available at Guttenberg, the New York Public Library, and other sources.

In short, it does everything you can ask of an ebook reader for a lot less $$$ than other units available. Highly recommended.

Appliance color multifunction Brother house, which provides the press with inkjet technology, to faxing, copying documents and images. It has also great potential in terms of connections, because it incorporates the USB 2.0 access, wireless communication Wi-Fi 802.11b / g, Ethernet UTP cable.

Brother MFC 6490CW Technology and printing features

Inkjet Colour Printer is the definition of MFC 6490CW Brother offered by the manufacturer that has sold recently. The model is able to achieve a print resolution of 1200×6000 dpi, though you may of course choose other lower resolutions. Ink-Jet technology supports the performance of the device and the print area width is 10.76 inches for the format Ledger, and instead of 8.26 inches for the standard letter. The minimum size of drops dispensed from the printer via the jet is 4 picoliters for the black ink, instead of 1.5 picoliters for cyan, magenta and yellow. Print speeds of up to 23 pages per minute to yield results in lower quality and monochrome. The lower the speed for rendering in color.

Brother MFC 6490CW Paper properties and chromatic

We already mentioned as the chromaticism of the 6490CW Brother MFC provides a four-color printing, according to the traditional. In particular, the integrated two ink cartridges, one that provides the color black, the other deputy to the three primary colors (magenta, cyan and yellow). There is no provision, however, the separation of colored inks. The paper tray can hold up to a maximum of 250 sheets of plain paper input. However, the automatic document feeder allows the management of approximately 50 sheets of plain paper. As well as 50-sheet is the ability of the collector to the output paper. Diverse and varied are the paper that can be adopted for printing with Brother MFC-6490CW, considering that the weight can be diversified and formats of various sizes.

Brother MFC 6490CW Connections, displays and physical data

Of particular interest is the provision of connections on the Brother MFC-6490CW. The model in fact has a very rich connectivity and PC interfaces. Do not miss such as USB, version 2.0, with cable. The model can be plugged into an Ethernet network connection and a special thanks to the UTP cable. Last but not least the protocol with Wireless LAN 802.11b / g. Brother MFC 6490CW has an internal memory of 64 MB and for optimal quality printing requires a temperature between 20 and 33 degrees. The printer is also compatible with several memory card formats, among which are Compact Flash, Memory Stick, Secure Digital, xD and SDHC. Weighing 15.6 kilograms well, the model has dimensions of 54 cm in width, 48.8 cm deep and 32.3 cm in height.

Brother MFC 6490CW Additional features and equipment

Among the extra features of this printer a major role is certainly played by fax. With a 33.6 kbps modem speed, allows the sending of a page every 3 seconds. Delayed shall be allowed only in black and white. In addition to the fax also has a color copier, with a maximum speed of 23 copies per minute in A4 (Letter in up to 20 copies per minute). Copy of the resolution is 1200×1200 dpi and resizing the document is between 25% and 400%. Possibility of multiple copies up to 99 pieces. Finally, to also signal the scanner with 1200×2400 dpi optical resolution and digital resolution of 19200 dpi maximum. The viewer scans for Windows ScanSoft PaperPort SE with OCR.

Brother MFC 6490CW final verdict

Brother MFC-6490CW is characterized as a multifunction printer with professional, able to manage workloads really important, but at the same time equipped with a structure and a volume difficult to manage in a domestic environment. By fax, photo copier and scanner, is one of the winning connections, that may be connected Wireless 802.11b / g, Ethernet access networks, USB 2.0 and compatibility with a wide range of memory cards for direct printing. The device has a weight of 15.8 kg well. Use an ink-jet technology and offers a four-color printing at speeds up to 23 pages per minute. But does not include the separation of ink cartridges. The printer is compatible with Windows Vista, XP or 2000, but also with Macintosh Mac OS X 10.2.4 and later.

Brother MFC 6490CW user review

Brother MFC-6490CW. I feel I can give an opinion on the field for this machine not only because I used the previous model for a long time by subjecting the unit to overwork print continuous reading, but also because the characteristics of this new series, I realize that the price offered , the product quality are excellent. In fact, it is an inkjet printer that prints 20 to 23 pages per minute (not many!), Has a resolution of 1200 * 6000dpi, a very able paper tray (250 sheets), supporting wireless communication, has proven an excellent and fax, the same goes for the scanner 1200 * 2400 dpi. Also, accepts eight types of memory cards. It is not just for a multifunction printer. In my opinion, the big Brother house experience makes this printer a reliable business partner for those who need fast prints and continuous. By paying attention only to the cartridge, since it is an inkjet printer and unlike the laser, they last much less, as we know.

Christmas gift for my wife, that the Bookeen Cybook Opus has proved the most useful and suitable for an avid reader who is also a computer and know where to find the sources online. Strongly disagree with an opinion that was written last November by the only other person who has spoken, as in the first place, I say immediately, the e-ink technology (or e-paper) is not absolutely tired sight. In the second instance is not very likely to set aside, if you readers is authentic because it gives the impression that this thing is to have the front page of a book that fine print, not backlit, but clearly visible at all angles. Now let’s see in detail the properties (except that the price for this kind of devices, still quite high) that distinguish the postive supply.

Bookeen Cybook Opus E-INK TECHNOLOGY

Let’s start with the technology behind the operation: it is essential to understand the difference between an e-ink display and a normal LCD. Electronic paper, also known as or e-ink e-paper is a display technology designed to mimic the look of ink on normal paper. Unlike a normal display, which uses a backlight to illuminate the pixels of the display, e-paper reflects light like a sheet of paper. We understand that this will decrease the fatigue induced from the issuance of an LCD though weak (even weaker with LED backlight).

The Cybook OPUS Bookeen Cybook Opus

The Bookeen is a pioneer of the spread of the ebook reader for many years and are already dealing with this. For years, that produces Opus is an e-book reader appealing from the standpoint of design, is lightweight, handy and simple without being spartan. They went out several models of e-book reader now: that of Amazon, Barnes & Nobles and not least that of Sony. They all have more performance and features, from memory, the wi fi to the width of the display.
But this is really the essential Opus Cybook ebook reader: for the price of 270 € is really what you need without wasting material, various wires and cables. The connection to the PC with a USB port and is a dedicated cable.

It recharges from your PC via USB and there is not even the basic equipment on power supply transformer. I find that this choice is to succeed, knowing that most people use an ebook reader is computer literacy. And then, sorry, for once, no more power, plugs, careful not to replace them with other devices, cell phones and stuff. A relief that I very much appreciated.
The base memory is 1 GB (not just because of Linux-based operating system), but can be expanded without limit with a micro SD card and its slot. At home we have never used a micro SD card even though is different, so that a 1GB for reading digital books is that too, if you keep stored on your PC.

The CPU is a Samsung 400 MHz ARM has already been used successfully on several specimens of the HP pocket PC.
It has an accelerometer that detects the position of the reader, which automatically directs the reading direction, horizontal or vertical.

The battery has a really long range: it is given to read 8000 pages and really well after 2 weeks of use to 60% and was still reading, I assure you, was very assiduous.
As I said the OS is based on Linux Kernel 2.6 and this is appreciated for the management of the directory to display very effective, much more than any Windows Mobile even though I know well.

Other advantages are the extreme weight and easy handling. It weighs much less than a book, but really seems to have a page of a book in sight.
Conversely, I can only say it is not touch, not multi-touch and has no wi fi, things which in itself would facilitate navigation, but as mentioned is a very essential and I believe that if a device with multi-touch wi fi is too iPhone and motivates me to do more than read, know what I mean. Good choice, then, for a price that absolutely is not low, but that is the lowest among the e-book reader currently available in specialty stores and not online only.

Another detail: the choice is for display only in black and white, to better simulate the appearance of the page of the book.

Bookeen Cybook Opus FORMATS

A word on formats supported: among those beds are HTML, TXT, JPG, GIF and PNG. Then reads the images, but it is not multimedia player: even that it focuses on reading.

Do not forget the support of PDF and EPUB. These then are the most enjoyable I’ve read for years after. LIT Microsoft Reader. It ’s an increasingly popular format in the ebook, but unfortunately it is often covered by DRM licenses, but there is also a good software for both Windows and Linux, Calibre, which converts all files in EPUB and with the advantage of reading this is guaranteed for the management of font size and browsing.
I installed everything and now I read in EPUB on Windows Mobile with a software called Freda 1.0 (which stands for Free e-reader). ClearType fonts and font, and it seems appropriate to read a book on palrmare: sin is LCD.

The Mobipocket format but is not accessible from native: If you upgrade the firmware on line mobipocketd also becomes readable, but not if you DRM.

Bookeen Cybook Opus CONCLUSION

You will understand that I was really good, whatever you may have this Opus is a limitation but it seems to me a strong point that marks the entry of peremptory these devices in our lives and after a while we end up using widespread. With this model, then you are sure: as long to be real readers and buyers of technology that exhausted the novelty is set aside. Happy reading.

You may or may not be aware that I am quite a graphics card conoisseur and the latest card I have had a chance to sample was the Palit GeForce GTX 460.
For those of you whom are graphics savy you may note straight away that the Palit offering is clocked slightly higher than the reference design. The 1024mb (1Gb) version is clocked 25mhz faster at 700mhz. This may not seem fast at first glance, however as we find out it gives it the oopmh to beat some of its competitors.

Right now is probably the best time to considering getting one of these because Nvidia has announced a price cut and board partners such as Palit have funelled this through to retailers. Many online stores have brought the price of this card down to £152 and this may soon fall to £130.
Now for the fun part unboxing. Palit provides simple packaging that is attractive and the card comes in anti-static bag (which is by now the norm) bundled with driver disc, molex adapter and HDMI cable. The card itself looks beautiful with its orange fan (which seems to have a glowing quality). It goes very nicely if you have a clear side panel and red/orange leds.

The card is relatively small – in fact smaller than an ATi 5770 (which itself is very small indeed) so much so that you will find it easy to install even in cramped mid-tower atx cases.
It has a dual slot cooling solution so it is important to have an empty slot space at the back of your case. The card is very easy to install it simply pops into place in the PCI-e slot and securing it is very easy with some case screws.

One thing to note is the power requirement of the card is a little on the high side. Typically you would need a 600+watt PSU to keep this little monster happy and it also requires 2 6-pin molex connectors (one is supplied).
Once it is in place and drivers have been installed you can enjoy some heavy gaming or photoshopping excercise. I guage performance of cards by its ability to record through fraps using highest settings. And this Palit plays Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 at above 90 frames per second easily and manages around 70 on Battlefield Bad Company 2. These games are quite recent so if you do throw something older it will most likely muster up some amazing frame rates.

Moving onto the noise and heat levels – well firstly it can be a bit noisy IF you clock the fan over 50% otherwise it is not audible over case or psu fans. It also cools remarkably well and at 40% fan speed it shouldn’t go over 70degrees whilst playing games for a considerable amount of time.
Final say? Great card compared to other brans at this price if a bit demanding on the power.

The Sony Reader is an e-book reader. It uses an electronic paper display developed by E Ink Corporation that has 166 dpi resolution, eight levels of grayscale, is viewable in direct sunlight, requires no power to maintain a static image, and is usable in portrait or landscape orientation

I got this a few days ago after seeing the high cost to get a physical paper print of a PDF book from an online publisher.

I have many technical computer documents in PDF format that I like to read. Most of them range from 200-1500 pages; having a print copy has always been more convenient to read a few pages here and there (especially on long road trips and while on the bus / subway).

I decided to get this item as used from a seller. Overall I really like my Sony Reader. If it was not for the cost I would have given 5 stars. In addition, the following are my personal scale from 1-3 (3 being the highest):

Sony PRS-500 Reader Reading clarity 2.8: Very sharp, but the brighter the surrounding light the better the contrast. I am thinking of getting a clip-on booklight so I can read in the dark (late bus rides home). When changing pages, you can see a slight “ghost” print in 15-30% of the previous imprint. However, it is very faint, and may be the limitation of the eInk technology. Ghost images do not seem to go past 3-4 page turns, however, imprints can linger in 5-10% for up to 3-4 page turns. (It seem that the screen does a single refresh when you turn the page.)

Sony PRS-500 Reader Battery Life 3.0: I’ve had it for the last 4 days, reading about 3 hrs / day, and it is still has 50% battery bars from the original charge.

Portability 3.0: Lighter and thinner than most of my books.

Sony PRS-500 Reader Size 2.2: The regular screen may be too small for my PDF manuals. I use the landscape and larger font for viewing. This is perfect for a novel / story book with “medium” font setting; however, most computer books and manuals are intended to be printed much larger. The size is comparable to most story book, but since there is an option for a larger font and landscape mode, I do not mind turning more pages so that I do not have to strain my eyes.

Readability Convenience 2.5: There are only 2 font settings (small and medium). The medium size is easier for me to read, but I find myself pressing the next page button rather often. However, I can take this more conveniently than a full book (lighter, smaller), so I get more reading done. (after reading other’s comment, I may need to take better care not to crack the screen, though.).

Performance 2.5: It does take time to go to the next page (about 1-3 seconds delay depending on the complexity of the next page). I find myself pressing the next button ahead of time to keep a fast reading pace.

PDF 1.9: PDF seems a little slow to go to the next page when there is a picture, image, or diagram. Also, setting it on Medium font size does seem to be consistent in PDF. The font size seems to stay at small, when you change back to small then medium again you see a larger version. Also, diagrams, drawings, pictures are very difficult and next-to-impossible to read. I look on the computer to review diagrams.

Sony PRS-500 Reader Expandability 3.0: I have a 2 gig SD memory card in mine, and I still have 95%+ free memory with over 30 books.

In addition, the following deficiencies may be important to some (mostly, not a big deal to me, but I would consider a competing product):

-No way to zoom, or apply custom zooming from 0-200% or 0-x%.

-No light source or backlit (It would be nice if they could embedd led’s for night reading.)

-Has Mp3 player, but no built-in speakers. (they could have taken small speakers out their palm or phone products)

-No search feature. Sometimes when I want to recall a topic or sentence, It would be easier to run a search instead of scrolling through the pages. (makes sense, since it does not have a keyboard. when frustrated, I just use the computer).

Sony PRS-500 Portable Reader System user review

The Sony Reader enables the user to carry 160 books- or with a memory card 13,000 in the user’s purse weighing just less than an actual book when the protective cover is on. At £199.99 its retail price is extremely expensive although it can be found much cheaper on line at Wh Smith’s website and play.com which charges £149.99 £50 less.

In my opinion this is definitely worth a buy if you are the type of person who always likes to take a book or two on the go and especially when going on holiday it is infinitely useful when you can take loads of books without exceeding the weight limit. This device is charged with a usb cable from the computer and would usually last around six hours depending on the font size. Also it doesn’t hurt you eyes like you might imagine and turning a page is very easy and you don’t even notice it after a while.

The font size can be changed to three different settings and books can be downloaded from the internet. Although you start with 100 books they are mainly classics and a twelve year old boy like me in his spare time won’t really want to read too much of Jane Austen and Shakespeare. Books are generally £1 or so cheaper than in the shops and they are several different sites such as Waterstones and Penguin although personally I find that Books on Board is a lot cheaper and has a larger variety of books. On this site however you have to choose between the Us site or the Uk site so if it comes in dollars you have to change it.

Although you could say it is expensive if you download lots of books that previously you bought from shops you can save quite a bit and compared to the Kindle or the Iliad this is around £200 cheaper and doesn’t have many less features. It only takes seconds to download a book after purchasing in a very similar way you can download music. The settings are easy to use and there aren’t that many problems with the machine. also there is a bookmark setting which enables you to not lose the page if you suddenly turn it off or it runs out of battery.

All in all I would recommend this device to all book lovers as lots of books are now on the internet and daily that number is increasing. Also the Sony Reader prevents you from going to a book shop only to find the book isn’t in stock, lugging books throughout the country and the tough choice between which book to read next. Thank You for reading my review I hope you have found it very useful.
